Met veel verdriet omdat het gemis nu al zo groot is, maar ook met een glimlach aan de vele mooie herinneringen, moeten wij jullie mededelen dat onze lieve Fred afgelopen zaterdagavond is overleden. In alle rust, en met zijn lieve broers en mijn moeder en ik (zijn dochter) aan zijn zij, heeft hij hopelijk zijn laatste mooie plekje gevonden die hij zo verdient. Tot op het laatste moment heeft hij kunnen doen wat hij het liefste deed, schrijven en een boek lezen.
Het schrijven op de blog was voor papa echt een uitlaatklep. Aan de ene kant, kon hij zijn ei kwijt, maar aan de andere kant hoopte hij ook mensen te inspireren en lotgenoten een betere inkijk in het ziekteproces te bieden. En inspireren doet hij zeker. Niet alleen met deze blog, maar ook met zijn boekjes en vele acties waarmee hij meermaals geld voor kankeronderzoek heeft opgehaald. Zelfs toen hij ziek was, was hij alleen maar bezig voor anderen.
Zoals hij zelf altijd zei “ik leef meer in korte tijd”. Hoe raar dat ook klinkt, is dat zeker waar. Waar vele zouden twijfelen over een idee, hing papa al aan de telefoon of achter zijn computertje. Hij heeft zoveel gedaan. Met de vele broeder-uitstapjes, vader-dochterdagen, uitstapjes met vrienden, acties, werk, en niet te vergeten mooie uitstapjes met mama. En hoeveel mensen hebben nou naast onze minister-president Rutte in het torenkamertje gezeten..? Als papa iets wilde, lukte het hem, maakt niet uit hoe hard hij hiervoor moest knokken.
Als ik maar een klein stukje mag worden van wat mijn papa was, ben ik een heel tevreden mens. Zo trots op hoeveel hij zelf heeft bereikt en geleefd, in een veel te korte tijd. Ik hoop dat hij niet alleen mij heeft geïnspireerd te knokken voor wat je echt wilt, maar ook jullie allemaal. Ik hoop dat jullie hem ook herinneren als de lieve strijdlustige man die hij altijd is geweest. Dat jullie tijdens je ommetje denken aan de mooie wandelingen die hij met hulp van velen heeft georganiseerd, aan hem denken terwijl je door één van de vele boekjes bladert, of zijn kaarsje aansteken tijdens het avondeten. Zo zal hij nooit vergeten worden.
